Every year, countless hours and significant resources are lost because of poorly written code.
Noted software expert Robert C. Martin presents a revolutionary paradigm with Clean Code: A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship.
What kind of work will you be doing? More importantly, you will be challenged to reassess your professional values and your commitment to your craft. Clean Code is divided into three parts. The first describes the principles, patterns, and practices of writing clean code. The second part consists of several case studies of increasing complexity. Each case study is an exercise in cleaning up code—of transforming a code base that has some problems into one that is sound and efficient.
The third part is the payoff: The result is a knowledge base that describes the way we think when we write, read, and clean code. Readers will come away from this book understanding How to tell the difference between good and bad code How to write good code and how to transform bad code into good code How to create good names, good functions, good objects, and good classes How to format code for maximum readability How to implement complete error handling without obscuring code logic How to unit test and practice test-driven development This book is a must for any developer, software engineer, project manager, team lead, or systems analyst with an interest in producing better code.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later. I've been programming about 17 years and consider myself above average programmer.
Yet, this book made me feel like I'm actually horrible coder. I've always gotten my tasks done but I didn't pay attention on refactoring to clean up the code. I'm already behind and got a demo coming up in few days. As I'm reading my guilty verdicts on all his 'bad code' examples, it inspire me to care about 'coding' yet again.
It can be fun and it's not all about getting the job done. What's sad about the reality is that 'bad code' will continually increase over time because people don't realize what 'bad code' can do in the long run. Every programmer regardless of experience should read this book. Didn't even read reviews before purchasing as someone gave me the book as a gift. I liked the book so much I wanted to pay it forward and buy it for a coworker as a gift. As many others have mentioned it appears to be a bootleg copy.
Cover is blurry, code samples seem like a poor copy job, margins are huge, and spline and back cover are blank. I have a different version; the side by side comparison is obvious.
The original book is smaller, but the fake book uses the same text dimensions but on a bigger sheet of paper. The original is not 8. The non-bootleg version is worth every penny. The bootleg version is a shame. Couldn't imagine reading this over-sized publication with light ink printing. Programmers battle enough eye strain all day with their monitors, we don't need more.
I guess I have to find somewhere else to buy this. I've read a lot of programming books. I work on a mainframe system. The first chapter described our team's challenges to the T.
Can't believe I have to give this book a 1 star, because of it's crappy bootleg copy. In case the author s are reading this. Sorry for the one star. I loved the book, perhaps the best programming book I've ever read. Also, to the author s - Thank you. This helped me reach a new level of programming and to propel me off of the plateau I've been at for years decades. The author s clearly know what they are talking about even if I didn't take all of their recommendations.
In 10 years from now, I will likely wish I had followed all of their recommendations. This is a critical thinkers book.
